HELP!!! Computer not booting. No video. Tried everything. Video card fan spinning on highest speed non-stop!

Ok, here's the deal:

My motherboard, the Abit ip35-e doubleboots as always but nothing appears on the screen, ever. My 8800gts video card fan spins
on the highest setting continously and never slows down. I tried an 8800gt I had laying around and the exact same thing happenned.
Switched my power supply for a brand new Antec Earthwatts 500 watts and had the same result. 2 different sets of OCZ DDR2 RAM
didn't work either (gold and silver) so it's probably some type of motherboard problem. Both sets of OCZ RAM seem to want 2.0 volts
or more, so maybe I will buy some 1.8 volt RAM and see if that helps. The motherboard worked fine for a year with either set of RAM
before, or both! It's kind of strange that the motherboard is giving me problems after EXACTLY 1 year, which is the length of the warranty!

I've attempted to boot up so many times that all I hear now is the sound of computer fans!

I've tried turning everything off, then unplugging the power supply, pressing and holding the power switch on the front of the computer for a
few seconds to drain all remaining power from the motherboard, plugging the power supply back in - still didn't work.

I also tried popping the cmos battery out and doing the same thing. I moved the cmos reset jumper near the battery, still nothing.
(of course I moved it back afterwards) I've even tried booting with one stick of ram at a time - nothing.

Everything powers on BUT DOES NOT BOOT INTO BIOS. All LED lights are on, the CPU feels warm, but my 8800GTS fan is constantly
running at full blast during this entire time (typically it ran at full blast for a second or two at boot, then resumes normal speed). Screen is also blank.

I had to refuse delivery of my new 4870 video card because of this!
Anyone have any ideas? Feel free to let me know before I go crazy! AAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!

UPDATE:

I have a Q6700 CPU and Intel DG33TL motherboard, and I just ordered 2 GB of 1.8v RAM:
(Which I would need to go with that Intel motherboard anyway if I used it)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231098

I am going to try the RAM on the ip35-e and see if it works, then I may try the Q6700 - I am reluctant to open the Q6700 and Intel motherboard because I was going to sell them, they are brand new in the box.

Also I left the computer off for a few hours with the battery out, just in case... and I will probably reseat the motherboard and maybe reseat the CPU before trying another CPU.

Any friendly helpful people out there? I am open to suggestions! :)

***** H E L P !! *****

EDIT: Hey let's not all crowd in here at once! ;)

You already tried alot of the things people would recommend to try... thats probably why no one is responding. Thats a bummer man. I don't know what to suggest off the top of my head. Perhaps strip the system down to the minimal configuration you can possibly get and try to boot (remove any extra pci cards, try with just one stick of ram, etc) Do you have a pci graphics card you could try? If you have any compressed air blow out the mem slots real good if they are dirty. Good luck! If I think of anything I'll add it here.

Actually, pretty much the exact same thing happened to me 3 days ago.

Out of the blue, I got a slideshow for ~10 seconds while just browsing the web, after which the screen went black. Tried all the same things you tried; only difference for me was that sometimes I would get image for a few seconds.

Ended up buying a new motherboard, and now it all works again, with the same CPU, RAM, PSU, GFX as before. Had to replace my old primary hard drive though, as this got broken as well. Whenever I plug that in now, the system just hangs after the BIOS.

As for the minimal configuration testing: I tried without hard drives and opticals being plugged in, with only 1 stick of ram (putting it back to 512) and a videocard that didn't require any additional power: Same result.

I'm now having a new problem though, but I won't hijack your topic for that issue ;)

Probable Solution: I had the same problem but just read someone else's post about a grounding issue. I had too many "risers"? Those little heagonal things you screw into the case to lift the MOBO up. One of them was grounding out the MOBO. Check yours. Mine booted fine outside the case, that's when I saw too many risers.

What do you mean by doubleboot? I have an IP35P now and it does this thing where it boots, then shuts down after like 3 seconds, then boots again. Is that what you mean? My old Abit mobo did it too.

This is really common especially for people who re-use the same case and replace their motherboard fairly often.

Some boards just have different hole layouts for the standoffs, extra hole here, no hole there.

also sometimes you can just have a funky motherboard/case relationship and the damn case will ground out the MB no matter what. I usually use those thin pieces of pink foam that comes with some MB's and place it beneath the board. Usually does the trick and have never had a problem. This was years ago though.

I will try all of the above, thanks a lot for all the input everyone! You guys are great and I really appreciate it!

Please keep the posts coming! :D

I had just ordered a BFG BFGRINF650iU (650i Ultra) motherboard for about $40 shipped, refurbished.

Good reviews on newegg by people who have OCZ memory and similar components as me:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...A&Item=N82E16813189005

Yes, I know I could have bought a much more expensive/better/sli motherboard but I'd rather just go cheap and
replace when necessary. Plus I'm not interested in SLI/Crossfire...

Also I read some very good things about this motherboard by people who are in a similar situation as me -
it looks like a decent one to say the least.

I will send back the Abit ip35-e motherboard if it is indeed defective, in the process of taking it out I can test it
outside the case. If I send it back hopefully they will honor the warranty and actually send me a working
motherboard in a reasonable amount of time.

Don't forget to keep posting your input/comments/questions/anything :)

by "doubleboot" I meant the standard 3 second boot and reboot that you (letired) described that is a free bonus included with the abit ip35-e and possibly other abit motherboards.

Please update and let us know, I'm having troubles with my Abit too, and this seems similar enough that it might help me.

Anyone have any opinion of the BFG 650i Ultra (BFGRINF650iU) motherboard I ordered? $40 shipped for a refurb.

I've never heard of that MOBO you bought, doesn't seem like it should be a big deal as long as it works. I'm going to try my roommate's powersupply tonight, it's an old 20-pin job but it might be able to let me know if it is my PSU that is the culprit.

It's supposedly a good quality overclocking budget motherboard, and it was near $200.00 retail when it was first released. I will try reseating
the CPU and motherboard in about 15 minutes, then I will post here again once I'm done. It may take a slowpoke like me a few hours...

By the way, I tried a different power supply to no avail - let me know if your friend's power supply works for you.

Still can't get my !@$#@&*!$ piece of @$(^*! motherboard working, it did not work with the 1.8 volt g.skill RAM I ordered but Newegg agreed to take the RAM back without a restocking fee. I reseated the CPU, tried using the motherboard outside the case, NOTHING. Tried a different power supply, different video card, 2 sets of OCZ RAM (gold and platinum) in all slots to no avail. Nothing seems to help. I still get the double boot (this is normal) then the video card fan spinning on the highest speed continuously but nothing on screen - nothing at all. I'm pretty sure the motherboard is dead at this point, but I may try reseating the CPU again just to be absolutely sure depending on how patient I am. The new BFG motherboard is arriving on Thursday so soon everything will be ok... I hope.

Anyone have any final suggestions before I smash this motherboad?

If the components you have work in another system or motherboard, then the motherboard is dead. If you have not yet tried your components in another system, you may want to start there before you "off" that mobo.

This is a pretty standard issue, my gigabyte does it. I think most P35 board do the weird double boot.

The double boot is an Intel chipset characteristic as it sets the strap.

mikeny1, do you know which BIOS version is on the mobo?
Also which generation of 8800GTS, is it a G92?

edit: btw abit's warranty in the US is 3 years ( 2 years parts & labour & the 3rd is parts but $25 for labour).

I think it's v1.00, and the 8800GTS is a 512 MB g92, but I tried an 8800GT 512 MB g92 as well and neither would work. I highly doubt that both video cards are defective...

Yeah I will try all components on the BFG motherboard once it arrives tomorrow. I am sure it will work.

After that, this motherboard will be on it's way to Abit RMA hell! lol

i had an asrock that I fought with for a week and finally ended up RMAing it. I tested all my parts in another mobo and they were fine, the asrock never would post.

that sucks, and believe me I know EXACTLY how you feel...

thanks for sharing... what did you end up doing after that?
