Last night I shut my computer off and was going to restart it. However, it would not turn on again. I tried and tried but it wouldnt' start. All the fans & HDD would start up but the monitor stayed blank the entire time. Up until then it worked like a charm!

After unplugging everything and plugging it back in it still didn't work. The computer never even beeped to tell me if something was wrong. Everything seemed to work but it wouldn't even boot to BIOS, monitor said "no sync input". Finally it started to randomly work. If I try to turn it on and off, 1 out of 20 times it will boot up. However, everytime it boots to windows it just shuts down after 5 mins. I'm lucky this time, it hasn't shut off yet...

The chipset fan stopped working a few weeks ago so i put an 80mm fan in front of it to cool it. Turns out all I had to do was give it a spin to start it working again. Chipset is still a bit warm.

Most of this stuff is new, the oldest thing in it is the PSU & HDD (12 months old)
Bios is 1008, just updated couple of weeks ago.
My cpu is running 30 C, my motherboard is running 27 C

Configeration:

Thermaltake 480 Watt PS
3000+ venice (W/ Asus ICE STAR cooler)
Asus A8N-E
512 kingston ram
WD 80 gig IDE HDD
Asus 6600GT PCI-E
CDRW
DVD player

- Have you tried to unplug/plug all the molexes inside your case including the mobo connector?
- Are you sure you haven't mixed the CPU FAN connector with the PSU FAN connector on the mobo (if you have a PSU FAN connector)?
- You should also try to disconnect everything unnecessary to boot.
- Is your rig OCd in any way?
- Are heatsinks firmly attached?
- Are there no shutdown measures implemented (and activated) for any of the fans in BIOS?
- Any failing hdd racks?

I tried unplugging all molex connectors, everywhere!

No, the cpu fan is connected to right place

I had my 3000+ o'c to 2 GHZ (only 200 mhz over) NOT overclocked anymore

Heatsinks are firm, my temps are LOW
HDD is fine, it wouldn't even boot some i'm not worried about that.
Not aware of any shutdown measures for bios.

It all just started out of the blue.

I think it would be a good idea to reduce the rig to its most important parts, try to disconnect everything else. Only PSU, CPU, RAM (1 piece), MOBO, video (no mouse, keyboard or anything else not even a single USB stick). Disconnect ALL unused cables (SATA, PATA, FDD, Front panel stuff cept for power-on, you could also try to use a screwdriver to put the rig on) Try to turn it on. If everything goes well put back the HDD you boot from. I guess you already tried trivial things like resetting the CMOS? Don't you have a different PSU at hand?
