Hi,
My computer keeps freezing occasionally and I was wondering if anyone here could provide me some advice on how I can fix it.
When it freezes, it stays frozen for maybe ~20 seconds and then it would try to reboot. But on reboot, at the BIOS screen before loading up the OS, it would freeze when detecting the connected IDE devices. Hence, a lot of times when I see the computer, it is basically stuck on that BIOS screen just saying 'Detecting IDE Devices...'. I would have to turn the computer OFF and ON to get it working again. This appears to happen randomly.. but seems more often when I am playing an old 2D video game that forces the display resolution to 800 x 600. But it has happened many times just normally idle not doing anything.. and one time I did catch a blue screen right before the reboot, and I believe it was complaining about the nv_disp.dll nvidia driver. But I already have the newest drivers for my video card and it would run 3d mark and other type of video intensive program for hours fine. I can't say for sure every time this bsod shows up before the reboot, because I've only caught it once right in front of my eyes (as this happens pretty much randomly).
Here are some of the relevant specs of my computer if it helps any:
AMD XP 2700 T-Bred
MSI K7N2-L Mobo
Geforce4 Ti4200 256MB
WD 160 HD
350W Good Quality Power Supply
In addition, I have a tv tuner, 2 cd/dvd drives, floppy attached as well, for power consumption considerations.
Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
