Help! Computer freezes when certain folders are open!

I have never had a prob with DC and memory drains. Now when I open IE it freezes for about 10 seconds and then is fine..When I have the folder open that I download all my DC files too at the same time as having DC open the computer goes really slow and I have to end task the folder! I have XP Pro. Please Help Me. This is really aggrivating..I hav tried everything!
