I just upgraded from a k6-2 450 to a duron 700. My system now consists of a duron 700 on an Asus A7V, 96 MB of pc-100 sdram, an AGP Viper V550 (16mb)latest drivers off of nvidia's sight, and a Turtle Beach Montego A3dextreme also with latest drivers. I have win98 installed and directx 7.0a. i have tried a lot of "3d games" when it goe to load the level or whatever the machine freezes. i have am completely stumped, everything worked fine untill i upgraded. I have gotten the most recent flash for the mb, and the promise controller. please help!

Make sure your cpu and memory bus speeds are within reason. Is that a Duron 700 that's been overclocked to 700, or is it originally a 700?

What type of fan/heatsink are you using? I would suggest the Alpha PEP66 or GlobalWin FOP32++, personally. If you have a sub-par fan/heatsink, this could be the cause of your problem.

With my K6-2/350, if I overclock it to 450MHz, everything appears to be fine, but if I run a game, it freezes, pretty much the way you described it. Try using a better fan or downclocking and see if that helps.

Also, make sure all your hard drive cables/wires and settings are correct.
