HELP!!! computer freezes at low temps

i've got a epox 8khal+ mb, amd 1800 xp cpu, g3 ti200, 512mb pny, and some other things, and my computer locks up when the temperature hits like 104-5f or around 43c. right now i have the case open with a house fan pointing into it, and it runs fine, but it's too noisy. once i move the fan out of the way, in a few minutes, the computer locks up. i don't think it could be the video card because it even freezes in the bios, i don't think it is the cpu or memory because i tried those on a friend's computer with pretty much the same set up and the temp went past 45c and the computer was fine. could it be my motherboard that's having problems? right now, i moved the jumper switch to 133mhz and have the bios running in the fail/safe mode. it seems to lock up or heat up a lot faster now.

If you have the hsf connected to the mobo correctly with a fan rated for that cpu, then Iook at your northbridge chip. Does it have a fan on it? Another thing to check--in your bios, make sure that you have the temp settings in PC Health status set high enough that your temp of 43C isn't shutting the comp down. If all of the above is correct, it sounds like your mobo could be the issue.

Another thought, are you OC'n? ( your specs that you list seem to indicate stock settings...) Is your psu working correctly? Your problem points to something not getting enough air to keep it cool.

chipset getting too hot?.....happenned to my roommate ..and it keeps freezing...he got a hsf for the chipset....works fine now...what is the nature of the lockup?.....and temp readings from the mobo to software are not that accurate...u sure that's the cpu temp reading?...ur using mobomonitor5?....cycle through all the censors .....

psu good?....chk the voltages for that (while having the computer going under load)....

this is one reason why i opted for a p4 instead of AMD.....heat issues......(after the haydays of axia thunderbird oc'ing...)

well good luck....i'm pretty sure ur cpu readings are not correct and/or ur chipset's getting too hot...
