HELP - Computer doesn't boot, goes to black screen

I finally got around to purchasing a new floppy drive for my old comp so I can update the BIOS. I installed the floppy and it works fine (phew) so I started looking into updating the BIOS on my K8V Deluxe... well, I downloaded the latest file, changed the file name to K8V.ROM, and then inserted the floppy, rebooted, and held ALT+F2 to use the EZ flash to flash to the new BIOS... it started to read the file, then said "erasing" with a rotating bar next to it... then said "update failed!" and now it will not boot. I tried inserting a bootable floppy, nothing. I tried inserting the original support CD... I hear it spin, but nothing happens. Did I just kill my computer?
 
Try clearing the CMOS, then use the support CD to restore the BIOS. I've heard that this sometimes works.

Just did that, and the situation has not changed.

Clearing the CMOS is the procedure that involves removing the battery, changing the jumper for like 10 seconds or so, then replacing the jumper/battery, right?
 
Try leaving the battery out for 30minutes.

Also, there might be a jumper [near to the battery] that is a 'clear CMOS' jumper. Check mobo manual
 
Also, make sure the system is NOT connected to AC power while clearing CMOS

There's a note on the ASUS website about not using EZ-Flash is the original bios level is less than 1005, do you remember what BIOS level you were at before you tried updating?

I would also reduce the system to bare essentials while trying to recover from the failed update, i.e remove all installed cards except video, disconnect all external devices except keyboard/monitor. disconnect all internal devices except CD-ROM

According to the manual for the K8V SE Deluxe (which is the motherboard I have) the system should detect that the bios is bad and recover the original bios from the Support CD...........



 
dunno what version of BIOS I had, but I saw that note and I thought that was just for the older BIOS revisions... bleh. I THINK I had the original BIOS, since I hadn't been able to update it for lack of a floppy.
