I am currently using the latest free version of Comodo Firewall and Avast's new ver. 6.0.100. When I first boot up, Comodo Firewall pops up to ask if I want to allow AvastSvc.exe. I click to approve, making sure it is set to remember the answer, and there is no further problem... until I power down and boot up again.

OS is XP Pro. I just installed this same combo on a friend's machine, and it does the same thing.

I think I recall this problem first showing up while I was still running the previous version of Avast AV, but I'm not sure.

Everything is working once I get past approving the initial request so it's more of an annoyance than a major problem, but I'm afraid to recommend Comodo Firewall to my non-geek friends until this is resolved.

TIA for any ideas or help. :)

Thanks, Bruce.

I posted the same message on their forums because, when I saw the thread at your link, it didn't refer to not remembering the setting. I'll be tracking the replies, there, as well.

New Comodo update, yesterday, to ver. 5.3.181415.1237 appears to have resolved the problem. Posted so others know. :)

Oops. Looks like I spoke too soon. The problem re-emerged when I went to download the newest versions of Comodo's installers.

On Comodo's forums, Valentin N suggested:

add the avast folder here CIS ---> Defense+ ---> Defense+ Settings ---> Execution control Settings ---> Detect shellcode injections (i.e. Buffer overflow protection) ---> Exclusions ---> Add ---> Browse...

I added the entire Alwil Software folder and replied to confirm that's what he meant, or whether meant to go to a sub-folder.
