I need some advice on picking a sufficent fan for my AMD Tbird 1.33Ghz with a SK-6 heatsink. At the same time, I want to get the quietest fan that will provide enough airflow/cooling for the processor (don't wanna burn anything now :) ). I am 100% sure I will NOT overclock this system. Any suggestions for the fan? Thanks for any replies.

Mine's getting here soon. I'm planning on putting a 80mm 42 cfm sunon on it. I have a 1.33 tbird, oced to 1.5 so i'll let you know how it goes once my sk-6 arrives. If you not overclocking you could use an even quieter 80mm fan for decent cooling that will be nearly silent.

Im using the SK6 with a 80mm Panaflo fan. Ive only done a slight OC 1533 @ 1610 on my XP1800+. I cant overclock any higher because my power supply is powerful enough. It is only a 250W Antec PSU.

The Athlon XPs are more 'heat resistant' than the previous Thunderbird cores, so I would need a stronger fan... And I forgot to mention I'm going to need a 60mm fan... Any ideas? Again I want it to be as quiet as possible.

I used to have the 60mm delta on it. It took a couple days to get used to it, but after like a week I didnt even notice it anymore.

Sunon 27 cfm. This is a pretty good performer at a reasonable noise level for a 60mm fan. If you're confident enough to try mounting an 80mm fan I would recommend doing so. It'll save your ears some abuse. Personally I think 60mm fans are too loud.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just afraid the fan won't provide enough cooling the processor, then it will overheat. =|

So I'm relying on your suggestion of a Sunon 27CFM fan. =]

I don't think I want to try the 80mm Fan "trick" on a SK-6. hehe

Go with the 30cfm Delta then, I have one on my SK6. It's not loud at all, and will cool better than the 27cfm Sunon. you can grab one here, once they open back up next week.

That Delta actually sounds like it will be better cooling...
Sunon 60mm 27CFM 38dBA vs Delta 60mm 30CFM 39 dBA

About another decibel for 3CFM more. I think I'll take the Delta. =]

Don't be fooled into thinking dba figures are the only important factor. The character of the noise is important too. My thermaltake 31cfm has a lower dba rating than my Sunon27cfm yet sounds a lot louder because it has a hi-pitched whine that cuts like a knife. Deltas are notorious for their high whine, so don't think a low dba number necessarily means a less annoying fan.

Thermaltake is notorious for misreporting the specs on their fans, so just because they say its got a lower dba, doesn't mean a whole lot.

The 30cfm Delta is quite good when it comes to noise. It actually sounds like a real fan, no high pitched whine.
