Ok, so my policy is about to expire for my car insurance. I am currently insured through Mercury Insurance and my coverage is 50k each person, and 100k each accident with 5k covering medical expenses. Along with a $500 deductible.

Now my 6 month renewal premium is $419 through Mercury.

State Farm wants $621 for a 6 months premium.

State Farm called me trying to get me to come back. They want to up my coverage to 100k each person and 300k each accident with everything else remaining the same. Now the lady is trying to sell me on the fact that I needed more insurance, but that is her job.

Am I being irresponsible not going for the 100/300 and keeping the 50/100 package?

I have had 1 fender bender back in 2001 and only a few speeding tickets since then.

I drive a 2007 Toyota Camry LE.

Damn your cheap insurance, I'm squeeky clean and pay 650 every 6 months for 75/150 for a 24 year old driving an 06 subaru legacy wagon.

Mine went down considerably when I turned 25, but I also got married that year.

We pay ~$480 for 6mo full coverage on an 06 elantra and liability on my shitbox 99 neon through gieco. 500 deductable, don't remember the coverages but they weren't extra or anything like that.

I'd shop around though, I was paying a few hundred bucks more before I switched.

I've heard great things about State Farm and their claims are pretty easy. We were hit by a State Farm insured driver, we called the toll free number, once they confirmed the story and at fault party ... everything was paid for with no yelling, cursing, swearing or death threats. It was a pretty quick and painless process.

AAA offers auto insurance with low rates, especially if you have excellent credit.

Seems Amica is an award winning car insurance company? Hmmm, may have to get a quote.

You know, that's NOT a very good record...

I have had good luck with State Farm so far. They were easy to work with and quick to release the funds when my car got broken into, and so far they've been pretty good about my getting rear-ended by an uninsured driver on Monday.

BTW, in the future you should really put more effort into keeping those speeding tickets OFF your record.

In my entire life, I have gotten two tickets for moving violations. Neither of them made it to any record.

i have state farm, i pay 494/6 months for a 100k/300k policy, 5k medical payment and 250 deductible. i even got 30k/60k for my injuries if hit by uninsured motorist. perfect driving record though and im over 25. state farm has been terrific, i have gone through 3 representatives so far as I've moved around and they have all been exceptional.

Considering my last accident was over 6 years ago I don't see how that is terrible. I should have noted that my only conviction on a speeding ticket was back in 2003. I have had probably 2 or 3 since then but all those I attended driving class and they were never put on my record.

Comparing using idental coverage limits, which offers cheaper premiums?

I thought about that, but then I went to all the insurance rating websites like jd power, am's best, and a few others Mercury consistently scored in the lowest group. So, I think I have decided to bite the bullet and just get the better insurance and pay the extra $200.

Hmm, thats interesting. They consistently rated in the upper echelon of car insurance companies. I am not saying they are the best, but they are definitely ranked amongst the best.

It does not mean anything. No matter what company you look at, they will always have customers who claim that their insurance company does not serve them well.
