Help Choosing a Processor

I am looking for a processor that can will be able to handle the parity calculations for a S-ATA Raid-5 CardsUnfortunately this rules out the VIA C3/Eden chip due to poor performance for this task. The problem that I am running into the finding processor that is powerful enough and runs cool enough for my system. I was looking into either an Intel with a Tualatin core or a Duron with a Morgan core. I need to know if I can run these passively (how hot do these chips get), and the power requirements.

Help Building a mini-flex ATX Server

i know i saw a mini-atx nforce 2 somewhere! i will have to look for it but look around i know there is one out there! and as for a processor just go with an oced 250 or since it is a server pick up a 2800 or 3000 or even 3200(i mean why not?). OR if you aren't in a hurry then wait and get an athlon64 when they come out soon! i am sure it could handle the task!

Its not the overall preforemance that i am intrested in, i just need a CPU that is capable of hadeling the pariry for the drives, and still have enough to run a FTP/HTTP server. 2800+ is overkill for what i need. my home systems i not even that fast. The big trick is that i am trying to keep the power consumption down at the same time haveing raid 5.

Oh, sorry i must have read it wrong or something. ok, well i would have to suggest any tred-b. the a's are generally power hungry but if you get a good b then you should be able to keep it down. and if you really want to keep it down then you could get something like a 2000+ and underclock it which should allow you to set the vcore down and reduce it further. if you are mostly looking for badwidth across a motherboard i still have to suggest the nforce 2. Alo9t depends of the psu and the hdd's too. if i may ask why are you concerned with keeping the power usage down?

Part of the reason why I am looking for a low power consumption system is that I live in California which now has outrageous power rates; the second reason is I am looking for a cool running system because of where I am going to place the unit.

I have a closet that is 25x28x100inces or about 40 cubic feet (1.18 Cubic meters). Half of which is filled with other stuff. The ambient temperature is around 80F (30 Celsius) because of other electronics in the room.
