Hey,

I have to replace my Hp Pavilion 9000 Series as it has died. I mainly use my laptop for school work, work (run ACCPAC), watching movies, listening to music and slight gaming. I use Microsoft Office to do most of my work related things. Only game I play currently is football manager but I do watch a lot of movies and listen to music.

My budget is $750 shipped. Not sure if I should go back with HP as I had a few issues with the previous one...overheating, white screen on occasions, battery burn out just to mention a few.

I then to travel a bit so I wouldnt mind one that isnt to heavy. I am thinking about a 15" this time around as my HP was a 17" a quite a bit to travel with (was great for watching movies though).

In terms of parts I dont really have a preference between an Intel or AMD based system. Would prefer good speakers though.

Any suggestions?

How soon do you need to replace your dead laptop? AMD Llano-based laptops should be hitting retail channels in the next two weeks. If you can wait, you should wait. Given your needs and budget, you'll have a lot more choices when they're released than you do right now.

would like to have it by August at least....I spent about $1,300 on that HP and that gave me some issues, had good parts but just wasnt what I expected. I will take the suggestion about waiting for about 2 weeks or so, see what comes up.

In terms of the Dell outlet items, are those refurbished items any good?

Yep, at least in my experience. Any issues I've had with Dell Outlet refurbs were addressed quickly and to my satisfaction by Dell, and I've only had a few problems out of a couple dozen orders.

ok...question, what really is a refurbished machine? Is it one someone use and returned, open box etc?

it is a machine that was returned, for various reasons, (wrong colour, no backlit keyboard, missing RAM, etc) and has been fixed (refurbished) by the factory (dell/ technicians on contract with dell) and is being re-sold at a discounted price, there will be nothing functionally wrong with the machine, it might have a scuff or something but it will not affect performance or usage.
