Help choose between Xperia Z5 compact vs Xperia X compact

I'm in the market for a compact Android phone, and I've come up with these two options.
Sony Xperia Z5 Compact (Oct 2015)
Sony Xperia X Compact (Sept 2016)

My understanding is that the Z5 was a high-end product but the X is closer to midrange, thus the CPU/GPU is actually better on Z5. Is that correct? Will the Z5 still have better overall performance (less lag, etc.) despite less RAM than the X? (I'm not planning on playing games, btw.)

Also, anyone know if the camera in the X is better? This review talks about some features which don't seem to be present in the older Z5, but maybe it's just bells and whistles that won't give noticeable improvements? The Z5 was also reviewed, but by different authors... so makes it kinda hard to compare directly.

Thanks!

Get the X compact.

Better GPU, better SoC (650 over the overheating 810 any day), more RAM, and usb type-C.

I have the X compact.
Its wonderful in pretty much every way EXCEPT the whole body gets very hot when using it at full power.
I highly recommend using the various Stamina modes to improve battery life and keep it running cool.

The performance of the 650 is very similar to the SD808, which was used the lg g4 which has a quad HD screen. Since the compact x is only hd it should perform very well so I would get it over the z and get the extra ram and hopefully more android updates because it's newer.

Compact, simply because Snapdragon 810 was such a turd. It screwed an otherwise awesome phone that is the Z5.

The GPU in the X compact is much much slower than the one in the Z5 compact (about 40-50% slower or so).

Also the X compact may have a type-C connector, but it's still only USB 2.0 underneath.

The Z5 Compact is excellent and still holds up well today. I would highly recommend it.

Thanks for confirming this. I was confused about the suggestion that the 650's GPU is better because the limited searching of benchmarks I did seemed to indicate otherwise.

Also the 810 in Z5 is v2.1 where they apparently fixed the overheating issue.

zerogear, how did the 810 screw the Z5?
