Go ahead and post all the specs you can think of, including your drives and so on. It sounds like you're trying to recycle your old Windows installation that's already on the hard drive, so let me start by urging you to put the drive back into your old rig and backing up any data that you want to keep, onto DVDs or CDs or something. Windows usually takes a dim view of new mobos unless they're strongly related to the previous mobo (like, nForce --> nForce2). So plan on a reinstallation.

As for it not seeing your optical drive, confirm that the drive has both its power and data cables plugged in (I don't know how many times I've forgotten to plug in one or the other myself ) and that the drive is not jumpered for the same setting (Master/Slave) as another drive on the same cable.

Yeah, that's Windows feeling  because it's looking for a VIA IDE controller and not finding it anymore. If you have data you want to save, heave the other mobo in there and rescue it. Looks like a nice rig, so I hope you get the results you want :)

And you already confirmed that you remembered the power and data cables, right? Next go into the BIOS and see if you can have it detect what's on the IDE channels. I haven't seen any boards recently that don't auto-detect opticals, but there's always something new

and ya there hooked up right
Just as a fact-finding step, put the optical drives' IDE cable on the IDE port that the HDD's are using right now.

yup that worked

for some reason nothing on my ide2 port works

i have my opticals on ide 1 and my hd's on ide 3

there all dectected now and it just seems like a quick reinstall away from working (knock on wood)

Does that mobo have a RAID controller on it? Maybe the opticals happened to be on the RAID controller's IDE port? RAID controllers usually don't have a clue what to do with optical drives, so I bet that's what happened.
