Help Cdrom Drivers not being installed in Xp

I've just recently purchased a new liteon 24x cdrw and it was replacing/trading places with a TDK 24x cdrw that i am giving my sister.
The problem is this. I no longer have any cdroms available in WIndows XP it WILL NOT load drivers.. it seems to ignore whats local but every single boot it recognizes the drives. My only problem I thought of was Not removing the "CDRW specific NERO" software. even after removing this software the problem still exists. I have other software "cdrwin and easy cd and cloneCd" that normally work just fine I have an ASPI layer installed. "uninstalled reinstalled etc" But so far Nothing i have done worked for winXp to find it's drivers again. Still being detected but still not loading. If anyone knows of a fix "i'm pretty sure it's a driver issue" Please let me know.
I don't mind muckin around in the registry but it helps if i know where to look.
Thanks!

Have you tried to detect new hardware in the Add/Remove Hardware applet under Control Panel?

Yep.. I've exhausted what i know of cdroms.. they are correctly loaded in dos mode off boot disks.
everytime i reboot XP they are detected. but they will not load. I'm sticking the TDK in today to see if it fixes anything.
