Help - CD RW Installation Gone wrong

I have AM-COMPS AMD athalon XP1800+ desktop. It had just DVD and CD-R Drive. I wanted to intall a CDRW. I Bought a Pacific Digital 16x10x40 Internal EIDE/ATAPI CDRW Drive. In the IDE1 slot is connected to DVD drive and one other hardware(I am not sure what it is). So the Master and slave of ID1 is connected. There is IDE2. I tried to connect the New CDRW drive to this and change the Secondary Master IDE to USER as the drive is not detected automatically. I get hardware error.

Please let me know what am I doing wrong.

Thanks

Initially there was a yellow plastic in the Slave pins. It did not work at that time. I changed the jumper to master pins. Even after that it did not work.

Sorry I forgot to mention this before.

Thanks
Venkat
