Help! CD-RW burning problem

I just got my first CD burner (Polaroid BurnMax24 CD-RW) and I am trying to burn Simpsons episodes (VCD). I am using Nero 5.5.8.2. I have tried on CD-Rs and CD-RWs and it says that the burn was successfully completed, but I cannot play them on my computer nor any other computer. The files on the CD are all unopenable. When I burn audio CD's it works fine, but VCD still doesn't work. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

On one of the video cds go into the MPEGAV folder, drag one of the .dat files there onto a MediaPlayer window, should play now.
