Help. CD-Rom's not working on my OS???

I installed a CD-RW drive on my computer. The drive is a Philips PCRW804. Apparently it is detected in Bios. I even get's detected in XP, however doesn't show up at all in "My Computer" and can't be read. I even stuck in a new drive, and it wouldn't be read. XP tells me there is a driver issue, but I'm not sure how to fix it or remove the file that is causing the problem because I did end up installing an old version of Adaptec Easy CD Creator and removing it because it didn't work. I believe it left some dll files, but am not sure which files it left. Can somebody help me? thanks.
