my aunt's computer won't let me shut down...after the shut down dialog box, i select shut down and press OK and it just reverts back to the normal operation screen...like nothing happens...can you help me?
And yes, it is ok to cut off the power like that. But personally, I wouldn't do it too often on my machines. Each time during boot, a lengthy scandisk runs.
Hmm that's weird.. never had that problem before. Maybe you should format your HDD and then reinstall windows (if you desperately want it fixed) otherwise i don't know. The problem i'm having with mine on Win98 is it goes to the Windows is now shutting down screen.. and doesn't goto the It is now safe to turn off you computer screen. I turn off the computer and it runs through scandisk when i reboot it.. Anyone know how to fix that?
Check out this link, it might have something to do with your problem. Try out all the steps listed until you isolate the problem. Hopefully something will work.
Note that if you are using Windows 98 SE, this is a known problem, and you can find more information about that here.
