Hello all.

In the past, with my 4 year old system and my pioneer 109d when I wanted to rip a dvd all I had to do (after cleanly installing winxp pro) was to install power DVD pro 6 (this would "unlock the drive" and allow Smartripper 2.41 to do the rest of the work. It would also allow me to play any dvd in powerDVD.

With my brand new PC that doesn't work anymore though and it boggles me.

I'm now using a NEC 3520a (although I do still have the pioneer 109d installed and the problem occurs wether I pop the dvd movie in one drive or another).

I did a clean install of winxp pro. I installed powerdvd. And when I try to play any dvd movie with it I get 'internal error 80900016' and more details shows a 'undefined error'.

Also when I load up smartripper, it tries to 'unlock the drive' and then gives an error window saying 'smoe files are still locked, try to unlock with a player'

Installing powerdvd has always done the job of 'unlocking with a player' in the past but not anymore.

both my dvd writer drives are flashed to the latest bios. I'm using an asus n6600GT extreme as my video card. I tried installing the 'nvidia dvd decoder' to see if that would help but it doesn't look like it has.

So any ideas what's wrong in this picture? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

i'd really appreciate an answer to this as i still haven't figured out how to fix it for good

i installed nero burning rom 6 and that seemed to unlock it.. but every time i reboot i get the same problem again.. smartripper just won't stay permanently unlocked like it used to be.

any idea what i can do to fix it?
