I tried installing XP Pro on my 1 gig T-Bird over the weekend and it wasn't pretty. My pc crashed so I reformatted and tried to install XP. It seemed to install a bunch of files and then just hung on the Starting Windows phase.
Next I re-install Windows98 SE and load in my drivers for my Ethernet card, Vid card and mouse. I try to do the upgrade to XP now. Everything is going fine until the re-boot part upon where the big Windows logo screen comes up but it is extremely faded. It looks like there might be a status bar under the logo but it is empty. Again, the system just hangs.:disgust: The only conflict XP found was with the logitech drivers for my mouse. I tried the XP upgrade with and without these drivers installed and it made no difference.
I did notice a scratch/smudge on the back of the XP disc. Not sure if that could be responsible.
Any ideas would be really appreciated:)

what motherboard do you have? was this a OEM machine? like a Gateway? because I know from personal experience, that you might not be able to install XP pro on a gateway home edition machine.

No, I built this pc. The motherboard is the MSI K7t pro-2a.
Could it possibly be something in the bios?
