I just formatted my computer.

Booted for the first time - installed nvidia nForce driver package. Rebooted. Installed the Omega drivers (Raden 9800 Pro). Rebooted - windows wouldn't start - the "loading" screen came on but it halted and my monitor turned off. Booted into safe mode, uninstalled drivers - and windows booted fine.

So I tried the regular catalyst 4.12 drivers - same thing, windows halts (and monitor turns off). Safe mode again, uninstalled drivers - and again, windows boots fine.

What is wrong? It was running fine before I formatted.

Arg after I installed SP2 it does it even without the ATI drivers installed........ what to do, what to do

Edit. SP2 seemingly installs some "Microsoft 9800 drivers" - I uninstalled those, and windows booted fine again.

HELP! World Of Warcraft starting soon :D

Just tried windows 2003 server. It's the same.

PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!! Going crazy here... why did it work before and not now!?!?!?!?!?

Before I reinstalled XP, I reset my bios settings to default - maybe there are some settings that need to be the way they were before, in order for windows to work - but what settings?

Edit: Nope not the BIOS settings.. tried changing everything imaginable.

*slightly embarrassed*

Sometimes the solution is right in front of you.

The problem was that I had DVI cable plugged in which I use for my projector. Without drivers the card outputs to the VGA plug by default, but with drivers it outputs to the DVI connection, so that's why my monitor went to standby - I mistakenly assumed that it had just halted.

:D
