I can't seem to install the new ATI driver (5-13-01-6094) for my Radeon8500LE under Win2K
after extracting the files, and when it comes to installing the driver part, it goes "INF error: Video Driver not Found"

what's wrong? I've never encountered such problem before

I downloaded and installed ATI's preference driver and it worked
does that mean my card is not built by ATI?
but I thought it is, cuz that was what the store told me when I purchased it

Is it even worth it to upgrade to these drivers? I have been very lazy with my drivers lately (still using the drivers that were bundled with the card). What improvements have they made?

I highly recommand you update your driver.
this new driver improved my system's 3Dmark score from 7429 to 7677

cliftonite,

The difference between the bundled drivers and the latest Catalyst drivers is like night and day. Do yourself a favor and update:)

Zoolan, if your card is built by ATI, the product code on the box will be something like 100-43xxxx.

The RADEON WIN XP/2k OMEGA/PLUTONIUM XK1.0.71b drivers from www.omegacorner.com are much better in terms of real world performance. 3D Mark is becoming KaKa now that ATI and nVidia think it's the Holy grail.

Zoolan,

I think I can help you out...just had that same problem with my new XP install (finally folded last night and did the upgrade from 98se:eek:).

This is assuming you have no ati driver installed for your card, and I take it you went far enough into the install that the files were unzipped to the "c:ATI/something-or-other" directory, right?

1. go into 'device manager' and right click on the unrecognized VGA adapter and select 'properties'
2. click on 'reinstall driver' (or it may say 'change driver') button.
3. tell it you want to pick the driver to install (don't let it search for the best one...it won't come up with sh1t)
4. select display driver for driver type and select 'have disk'
5. Browse to the "c:ATI/something-or-other" folder that has the unpacked driver files.
6. go into the folder for windows 2k, at this point you should see a file with a .inf extension. select it and click open.
7. click next to install the driver and that should do it!
