There is a thread about this in another forum, either OS or Net, but I cant remember the link. Try setting it up on another port.

I'd like to know how a 13 year old can afford Windows 2000, let alone Advanced Server. Methinks you have a warez copy, which gets NO support.

Heya- Mikel

First of all... ummmm...

Advanced Server is not for you.

1) You don't need it
2) You didn't buy it
3) Your friends don't care that you have it
4) It's not helping you
5) Don't get yourself arrested before you turn 18. It looks bad on college applications.

Go get Win2k Pro or WinXP Pro and install IIS

Guess what.. IIS is the same on the Pro version as it is on the Adv Server version.

Next, go to the IIS setting under the computer management and create a new virtual web server. Delete the default one.

Poke around in all the links and ask SPECIFIC questions here if you don't understand what certain buttons do. Asking things like "make my webserver work" doesn't help us teach you. :)

Make a new virtual server that handles "all available IPs" and listens on port 80. You should get something to work then and you can start fiddling with files and directories.

Except it is limited to 10 connections.

Before starting IIS install all patches and read up on securing it. Its not easy. Its not fun. But it needs to be done.

No it's not. You are limited to 10 connections, but also to only hosting 1 site - you can't host virtual sites.

By the way, for all the enforcers of the moral code out there - Anybody can buy a perfectly legal 120-day evaluation copy of Advanced Server from Microsoft for less than $10. Even a 13 year old. So don't be so judgemental when your ignorance is so monumental.

yea, i found out its only limited to 10 connections. sucks! im using win2k pro right now. reformatted back down to it after waiting forever to get wn2k adv server to install. then that crap@$ OS takes like 10 friggn minutes to boot up because it has to start all those network serices/configs and crap. and oh, im not 13 anymore, turned 14 on the 14th of this month.

He will find out in a few months time if he got all the patches installed or if Code Red or whatever the latest and greatest exploit out is running on his machine.

I dont just mean Windows update, I mean downloading the IIS patches. You should also read up on securing IIS, Saltin has strategically placed links to security information about IIS throughout the forums.
