Help!

I just got a Motherboard + heatsink combo and I can't get the heatsink off! It's a Taisol. Does anybody know an easy way to get this thing off? I'm afraid to crack the core or break something on the board! help!!!

Along with the screwdiver, you'll also need a hammer..the bigger the better. The reason for the hammer...after you use the screwdriver and you miss one time and go sliding across the motherboard scratching up all those circuits and basically rendering the board worthless..that is the time for the hammer...bash the crap out of it and take your frustrations out. Won't solve your problems, but will make you feel better.

LOL...just my .02 worth

Well, I just bought and installed a Taisol h/s yesterday (the latest HUGE one that has been getting rave reviews). Of course I had to take it back off and put it on again because I did the pencil trick wrong. I took the power supply out of my case so I could have more room and get to the clip from the side.

I pushed down with my hand on the clip while CAREFULLY used the screwdriver to pull it outward. After 3 attempts, it came off. Luckily for me, it wasn't that difficult. It felt to me like it should have been on the chip a lot harder, but I guess it must be alright. I have overclocked my Tbird 700 to 912 and running RC5 at 43C with no case fan.

Best of luck, and be careful.

Use a screwdriver, and place some paper sheets on the mobo around the clip, to not damage the circuits.
Also, if you can remove the mobo from the case, or at least the power supply.

And try to get good luck for ll the day berore, comes always handy
