Help, can't get sound card to work

I have been doing some troubleshooting to resolve garbled sound on my Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II, and updated the driver to the latest issue, v 6.09. I ran the update file (CSCv609.exe) and now the soundcard does not work at all. In Device Manager, it does not show the card there, but instead 'Unsupported Crystal Audio Device'. When I click on 'Sounds and Audio Devices' in Control Panel (Windows XP), the card does not appear in the drop down list. I have tried removing the card from the mobo and rebooting, but I still get the same results. Any ideas?

UPDATE: Got the drivers to install, but audio now sounds like an extremely loud, high pitched jackhammer... could my mobo be bad? It's an 8 year old Asus P4B... Help!
