EMERGENCY!
THE INFO:
I was running win2k, and formatted the drive. But in order to format the drive, i booted into DOS using a win98 Boot Disk.

Now, i'm trying to install OS back onto my laptop. I'm trying to boot into the CD (I'm def sure that the CD is bootable), you can hear the CDrom going, but it passes that, through the hard drive, than the floppy and says Invalid System Disk. i can boot into Dos using the boot disk in the floppy, but that's about it. When i boot into win98 using the bootdisk, it says no drives found, aborting installation. No Valid CDROM device drivers selected.

So, i called Sony, and they wouldn't help me because my warranty is up, WTF, those bastards. so, now, i don't know what the hell to do!

i have a sony vaio PCG-505TR
6.4Gig HDD
64MB Ram

HELP HELP HELP!!! PLEASE. THANK IN ADVANCE

In the bios, set the startup order to have "cdrom" first. It might also be called "removable device" or "D".

check ur bios setting, i believe there is a cd rom before hd setting or cd rom before floppy.. boot priority

boot priority is cdrom.

and right now, i don't have any operating system so i can't make a win2k boot disk.

i have nothing, and trying to get something...so frustrating

any other ideas?

Sony notebooks boot from a Sony System Recovery CD which has a goofy format. You're going to have to start from a Win98 bootdisk with the Oak CD-ROM driver and then type "setup".

could be you need a specific dos driver for your cd drive on the boot disk as the windows generic ones don't work!

The Win98SE bootdisk works fine with a Sony PCG-707C. I installed an OS on one the other day by booting from the System Recovery CD because I didn't have a working floppy drive for it. Once I got enough of the operating system installed, I deleted everything with the deltree command . Because all the drivers were still in memory I then could load the operating system from the CD-ROM drive.

typing setup doesn't do anything.

i'll try the sony system recovery disks...though, i dunno...may not work.

hopefully i can find them, get back to you guys

Hey Everyone, Thanks so much, man, I almost forgot i had those Sony CD's.

so, i went crazy for nothing 🙂 Thanks Again, man, what would i ever do with you guys and this forum!
