I just bought a ECS L4S8A2 SiS 648 Motherboard for my lil cousin the other day. I hooked up everything but when it i start it up it locks up at the beginning. I tried booting it from the cd-rom to install windows but it still doesn't work. I can get into th bio setting sometimes and it freezes it up in there. Any suggestion out there on what the problem is? Please help.

Welcome to the Forums 😀 For starters, can you give us a full rundown of what parts are in the system, preferably including the brand & model. Also, what is the brand, model and wattage of the power supply? Any extra PCI cards installed? What drives do you have and how are they assigned as far as Master/Slave settings?

Thanks for the reply,
I have an antec true power 300 what power supply, wd 40 gig hd, running on one stick of 512 cosiar mem, and a gefrorce FX 128 plug in video card. No extra PCI cards installed. please let me know what else information you might need in order to help me out thanks again.

There's been a trend recently with WD hard drives liking to be jumpered as "Single Drive" (usually accomplished by removing the jumper from the pins entirely). That could be the issue.

Also, this is probably too obvious, but is the 4-pin secondary power plug plugged into the motherboard?

If you can get into the BIOS, relax the timings on your memory to higher values like 2.5-3-3-6 if it isn't that way already. Good luck! 🙂
