Help - Can't delete file

I am unable to rename or delete a file that was downloaded from the internet. The operating system is windows 2000. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how I can delete the file from the system with having to reformat the HD.

Thanks in advance.:disgust:

I had this problem in Windows XP. The file was downloaded off Morpheus into the Program Files folder and I was unable to delete, rename, cut & paste, etc. any files in that folder. But I did figure out a way to delete the file. Create a new folder, or move the file into a folder that you don't need, and then delete the folder. Now, I'm downloading my files onto the C drive instead of the Program Files folder. Also, check to see that the file is not set to read-only. Hope this helps.

Thank You,

It worked. why do you download to your c root drive? This was also a download from Bearshare.

Do you like Morpheus?

Well, now I download to my C drive because in XP, you can't change the files in the Program Files folder. Now that I download the a folder on the C drive, I can delete, rename, etc. and have no other problems. Morpheus is a pretty good program...but take a look at a thread in the Software forums. There's a post there about a virus in a file. I'm also trying to use Direct Connect, but I'm having a hard time getting it working because of my router...but I'm glad I could help. Let us know if you need anything else...or drop an e-mail by. Take care.

If you can change your files in the Program Files Folder something is wrong. You should be able to.

The files can't be deleted or move because they're being used by the file-sharing programs. (This usually happens if someone is downloading a file from your computer).

If there's a file you want to delete and it's being used, you'll have to shut down the file-sharing program, delete or move the file, and then start up the file-sharing program again. If there's still a problem then reboot after shutting down the file-sharing program and then delete the file before starting up the file-sharing program.

This is just my opinion on what may be happening...

I had tried that...it didn't work either. Just kept on telling me that the file was in use.
