Help. Can't check my rogers@home email with router hooked up!

I recently connected a smc7004abr router so that i would have internet on both of my computers. The problem is that i can't check my email anymore. It gives an error. Is there some setting i'm supposed to adjust somewhere? please help. thanks!

Your problem is probably that you need to enter the actual host names for your email server.

@Home (for example) tells people to use mail as the host name for pop3 and smtp. Unfortunately, this is not a full qualified name and it does not work from behind a firewall or router. In my case, the actual server is mail.rdc1.ga.home.com. If you are with them, yours will be something similar.

Ya, to get the fully qualified server hook your computer directly to the cable modem, open up a dos window and type "ping mail" and "ping news" to get the full names. I've also had to hook to the modem directly to sign up for more e-mails and a web page, kinda sucks.

hmm, mine works fine with just &quot;mail&quot; and i have a router.

i have to disconnect and connect directly to the modem to check that? that sucks. there should be a way around that. BTW, i'm with rogers@home.

Make sure you have the provider's domain name suffix under DOMAIN in your barricade router. This will allow abridged names like mail and news to work.
