I put some new 3ware drivers in my initrd.img but of course they for got to mention which kernel they are for.
I did make a backup of my initrd.img but my boot disk isn't working, and when I try to start linux normally, I get an error msg:
" kernel panic no init found, Try passing init= to kernel"

I just neeed to get this back up and running

Thanks!

how can I do it from grub? I have to edit the boot parameters and am not sure which to mess with

here are the grub parameters:
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.9-13 ro root=/dev/sda5 hda=ide-scsi
initrd /initrd-2.4.9-13.img

CRAP!
ok I changed grub parameters to
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.9-13 ro root=/dev/sda5 hda=ide-scsi
I deleted to initrd line

here's the new error msg:
vfs: cannot open root device "sda5" or 08:05
please append a correct "root=" option
kernel panic unable to mount root fs on 008:05

I would REALLY like to avoid that.
I'm worried that I hosed the firmware while trying to upgrade. I spent some time on the phone with 3ware and they can't figure out why the firmware won't install

If you have an extra hard drive, try reinstalling on that. That will let you know if it is the controller and if not you will get your data back...

funniest thig tonight:
when rebooting to update firmware for the Nth time, the power button sticks in the "in" position
the front of the case is locked.
I can't find the key. (they just rearranged this office)
I break off a hard drive rack key trying to make it work.
I end up jimmying it with my leatherman (didn't break it even :) )
