When I fire it up, I get three long beeps. Reffered to the MSI manual, guess what? No troubleshooting section! :( I checked on their website, and could find no help topics for my situation (the beeps).

Not very cool in my book....

Luckily my other machine runs (so I can ask for help here :))....

Please help! I just got my first Athlon and I want to get it up and running!

In case you are wondering - my HSF was installed by my friend who has had numerous athlons. The paste used was Arctic silver II, and the HSF is the one that came with the CPU (it's retail).

Here are my specs -

Athlon T-Bird 1.4
MSI KT7266 Pro (non-raid)
512 mb DDR 2100 (Mushkin)
Maxtor Diamondmax 30 gb 7200 rpm
Creative GeForce II GTS
SB Live MP3
Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM
Plextor Plexwriter 24/10/40
Teac floppy
Netgear FA312 nic

Double check that all PCI cards, ram, floppy and IDE cables are fully inserted. If needed, start taking everything out and put it back in.

I checked and double checked....I am using rounded IDE cables..I wonder if that has anything to do with it(?)

I really didn't want to strip it back down!!! Oh well....here goes nothin'

Any info on the beeps??

You need to check AMI(BIOS maker) for the beep codes, none of the manufacturers never really provide beep codes on their web sites. At the meantime, try booting up with only CPU, RAM, video, and hard drive. Make sure the CMOS jumper is not on "clear". And you need an AMD approved power supply.

The rounded cables should be fine as long as they aren't defective. you can boot with just mobo/cpu/ram, no video or hard drive, just to see if it beeps again, then put in the video card, then hard drive, then add the stuff back in one by one..

EDIT: that sounds bad^^^, turn it off before you put the video card in. I'm sure you know that but just in case you don't , I didn't want to trash your computer for you!

I tried going to AMI, but I have no idea what BIOS version is on the K7T266....do you know what the model # is? There is a section for beep codes, but everything I clicked on produced no results.

Does the D-LED tell you anything? Anyway, here are the beep codes

1 beep: DRAM refresh failureTry re-seating the memory first. If the error still occurs, replace the memory with known good chips.
2 beeps: Parity Circuit Failure
3 beeps: Base 64K RAM failure
4 beeps: System Timer FailureSend System Board in for Repair
5 beeps: Processor Failure
6 beeps: Keyboard Controller / Gate A20 FailureTry re-seating the keyboard controller chip. If the error still occurs, replace the keyboard chip. If the error persists, check parts of the system relating to the keyboard, e.g. try another keyboard, check to see if the system has a keyboard fuse.
7 beeps: Virtual Mode Exception Error. Send System Board in for Repair
8 beeps: Display Memory Read/Write FailureIndicates a memory error on the video adapter. Try re-seating the video card. If it still beeps, try replacing the video card or the memory on the video card.
9 beeps: ROM BIOS Checksum FailureIndicates faulty BIOS chip(s). It is not likely that this error can be corrected by re-seating the chips. Consult the motherboard supplier or an AMI product distributor for replacement part(s).
10 beeps: CMOS Shutdown Register Read/Write Error. Send System Board in for Repair
1 long 2: shortVideo failureReseat the video board - replace if board is determined to be faulty.
1 long 3: shortVideo failure
1 long: POST passed. No Errors

take everything out and turn the system on first. Next, try reseating your RAM and video card. clear the CMOS. this board can be tricky if you do not seat your DDR RAM well or video card. try posting the system with just the RAM and CPU. then put in your video card to post. make sure your Power supply is good--try it on another system. from my dealings with this board, i find that if the board can beep but not post one has to try what i said above.
