My P4 system mobo has died on me. I decide to move on to Core2 now and my new parts are coming friday.
My Question:

Can i transfer my sata hard drive with windows and all my data/games to my new computer?
Will it work?

Do i have alternative ways?

thanks.

It all depends on your HAL and your disk controller.

Generally speaking, assuming initial boot fails with STOP 7B or HAL issues, a repair install is your best bet.

You can technically hock this thing up to an old Intel board processor setup and boot it to safe mode. Then change the IDE controller to Standard IDE Controller, and removed the video and sound device driver. You may have to reboot couple times for the changes. Then shut it down and connect the drive to the new system. Hopefully this was not a RAID setup cause it's not going to work that way.

I'm going against what the others have said here. I would hook the hard drive up to another computer and pull your information off of it. I would then do a fresh install on the new motherboard. Sure it takes longer and is a pain but why not do it correctly the first time. It's a good time to make some back ups of your data anyways and start off on the new setup correctly. Doing the repair will probably work but I've heard of way too many people having issues down the road and personally I wouldn't want to deal with them.
