Help! Can Win2K migrate to new mobo???

Three HDD SCSI setup, moving from 133a to 815e baseboard. All else staying the same. OK, here's the question: I really don't want to lose my finely tuned install...Can I delete the registers in Local Machine as in Win98 and keep my WINNT...or do I need to do a complete reinstall on the new board? Or...could I do a repair - no that wouldn't work would it? That would reinstall the old values. Anyone done this? Thanks!

just back up what you need, and reinstall. thats the only way it's going to work right.

You might not have to reinstall win2k. We upgraded the mobo on a few machines, and were going to reinstall the OS (assumed we had to). turned them on just to make sure everything was plugged in ok, and to our surprise, it booted to windows. windows asked for the win2k cd, and installed all the drivers for the new board.

I've tried this before, and it didnt work out at all. I tried first booting into safe mode and removing everything from the device manager and the shuitting down. Then putting the drive into the new computer. It worked for the first boot, but after the drivers were installed it would always bsod, with a error. I couldnt even get into safe mode. SO I had to reintstall. The upgrade was from bx-->kt133 chipset. Maybe it as because of this huge difference betw th mobo's that I had this problem, Im not sure.

What you could try is to back up everything, reinstall, and then restore. Maybe that will work. good luck

I went from Win98--->Win2k, from AMD----->Intel with nary a problem! That's not to say you won't have a problem, but it worked for me!

Just back up all you necessary files and try it! The worst thing to happen is you'd need to format and start from scratch!

mine works. my p3v4x went out on me... now on ghetto gigabyte mobo till i get a new one. not a problem..
