Hi...started to put my system together today.
Abit K7TA-raid.
Place cpu in socket and place the aplha pal 6035...everything went smooth.

Installed the mobo.
added 1 128mg ram module pc 133 infineon
placed a V5 5500 pci video card in pci slot 3

hooked up a maxtor 30gb to ide 1
hooked cdrom/cdrw to ide2..master/slave set correctly.
hooked up my floppy

attached appriopriate cables and power connector
plugged it in...go to start...
get an initial beep, fans power up,cdrom, cdrw power lights go on, I hear no hdd sounds

Video does not come up and get long beep...sytem stays on

My understanding with this mobo if the cpu is not in correctly system will start and shut down. Yes cpu fan is on fan header 1.
So it seems to be a video or memory problem...not seated correctly...well I moved the V5 5500 pci to a different pci slot...still same power on...initial beep the long repeated beep...

I went backed and placed the V5 5500 pci in my other computer and replaced the dimm I used also back to old computer and some reseating...my old computer fires up...

Any ideas...mobo is get power because cpu fan comes on as well as the 2 antec 80mm fans...my case is an sx830 with 300w ps.

Thanks
Neal

Yea I wondered about that... the DIMM banks are labeled in my opinion backwards on the ABIT...farthest from the cpu is dimm1 and closest is dimm3....I hope to get a chance to tinker tomorrow

Thanks for the advice

Could also be the fact that it will look for AGP card, by default, until you can get into the bios and reset initial display to "PCI".

then try to reset the bios. reseting the bios, in most cases, change the initial display type to pci

Thanks everyone. I am getting a G400 to replace the V5 5500 pci in my old system so I gues I will wait till Wed. to try again

If you have the KT7A RAID, The hard drive should be connected to IDE 3. I cannot say if that is the solution, but it is the way ABIT suggests the drive setup whether using RAID or not. Hard drives on IDE 3 & 4, CDROM, DVD, etc..on IDE 1 & 2.

Thanks technonut...I will give this a try as well.

I have another question...does the floppy, hdd etc need to plugged and ready to go...or can I try to get to the bios with just cpu, ram and videocard plugged in???

Also what pci slot would be best to place the V5 5500..slot 1..there is a capacitor(sp) near the slot and do not want to damage it...the V5 is a bigass card.

well I a tried everything but an agp videocard and no go..just these tapping beep sound. The Abit board defaults looking for pci slot videocard..so I doubt this is a problem..according to the manual it will auto detect either.

I called tech support and we ran through a few things and think it is a bad mobo...

Very strange...the fans come on....few seconds later get the beep...not like anything list FAQ...I even changed keyboard and mouse...used different ram in different slots ...moved videocard..

So back the board goes....
