Help Cadillac cts

Ok so I've had my 2013 cadillac cts coupe at the cadillac dealership numerous times for code p0442. This has been going on for over a year with no results of fixing. Everytime I fill up with gas and I go to start it has a hard time starting then wants to die (so frustrating). Yesterday I noticed this and would like to know if it's normal (like I've been told) or if this is more then likely the problem. Please help!!

can you tell us what you notice so we don't have to play a game with pictures?

if you are talking about the vent hole at the top, then yes. thats normal. it does look quite dirty though, have they changed the fuel filter? have they dropped the tank and cleaned the breather tube, and while there, i would just do the pump. not that expensive and hardest part is dropping the tank.

looks fine to me, just some junk flaking off around the vent hole.

Without guessing, have you actually tested or inspected the purge solenoid and connected vacuum lines? After the gas cap (really...no joke!!) this would be step number 2 with code 0442.
