Hey everybody, I'm looking into buying a 13-14 inch laptop. I will be using it for school so it has to be very portable, and very good battery life. I wil be mainly running matlab, office apps, mathematica, doing some video transcoding, java and fortran programming, and the ocassional game. My budget is 900 dollars tops. I don't know, maybe it's to much too ask for this price range hehe. Well right now I'm looking at the ASUS U30JC-A1 and it seems to be pretty good, what do you guys think??

Thank you very much, Juan Pablo.

That Asus looks pretty good, I wonder if that 9.5 hour rating is accurate. That is pretty impressive.

Another option, is the Apple MacBook on education discount for $899+tax, it has a 7 hour battery, nVidia 9400m GPU, 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo, 13" screen. You will need to have a Windows license to install that, but a lot of schools have discount programs, especially larger ones.

You may want to check with your school, see if they have a vendor that they go with.

Other than those two... I am not aware of many other non-CULV laptops with long battery life in that price range.

Thanks Stuart! I'll think I will go with the asus, yes battery life is great (reviews said about 6 or 7 hours), just what I need. As much as I love macs I'll just have to pass on the macbook. Thanks for your help mate.
