I want to go bike riding now that I have a lot more free time, but my old bikes crap. I'm looking to spend around 200-250, but my friend works at a place that has them and can get me one with discount. What are the best bike brands around that price? It's mainly trail riding, I need some pretty good tires because the terrain isn't that great, and spending more then that isn't a question because someone else is buying it for me as a late birthday present.

Any suggestions or links etc. appreciated
