I updated my HP 9110i firmware from 1.0b to 1.0c (because it was recommended by a program I was running, and it was also recommended by HP) and now my drive won't work right! It will not play any cds (retail included), I get a BSOD and then the computer locks up. I tried to write a CDR, and about 40% through it gives me another BSOD. I've tried this twice, with the same results each time. I can't find the old firmware anywhere to try reverting back to it. I've downloaded the new firmware twice, and tried re-flashing it twice (each time it says completed successfully), but it still doesn't work. I downloaded the first copy from the HP site, and the second copy from the HP FTP. Anyone have any suggestions? I've emailed HP, but probably won't get a response back until at least monday...

Hmmmm.... perhaps you might also want to see if there's an update for your motherboard BIOS. Sometimes upgrading the firmware of the burner causes it to have some conflict with the motherboard bios or some other device. Try flashing your mobo with the newest bios, and then check all your settings (UDMA?, IRQ) etc.

Good luck!

tagej - I'll check for the MB bios. As for conflics, there don't seem to be any, and I ran the little HP diagnostics program and it reports no problems (yeah, I know they're always worthless, but it was worth a try :))...

Firmware doesn't have anything to do with the OS. This is very strange, I haven't seen this happen before. Your best bet is probably to post a request for the old firmware file to some of the other forums (such as general hardware) to see if anyone else has the same drive and can help you get the old firmware back :)

tagej - I'll try. I've looked for the old firmware and can't find it anywhere. If there was a firmware reader for download, I know someone with the same drive that could send me a copy of the old firmware...

I see you upgraded your BIOS but are there any IDE driver updates as well? I was having problems with my Plex on my ASUS p5a and it was driving me crazy and nobody could figure it out. I ended up hearing from someone else that there was a new IDE driver update and I dl'ed it, installed, and now my burner is solid. Try that out if possible. Good luck.
