help! bsod when cpu cache is enabled...

I'm setting up win2k on a system i just built. whenever the cpu cache is enabled, i get a bluescreen right after the loading screen finishes. when i was installing it, i would get the bluescreen right after hitting enter ("to begin installing windows, press enter"). this did not happen when i was installing xp, but i couldn't find my cdkey so i had to go win2k. i disable the cache and the problem goes away, but the thing runs like a 486. i don't know if this is hardware or what. any help would be greatly appreciated!

install win2k, install servicepakcs, drivers, chipset driuvers etc. enable cache. If nogo. come back
