HELP: Bought new monitor but can't change resolution to log in.

This is so stupid. I bought a new monitor because my other one died. Plugged it in and started windows. NO go. Comes up with a message to change resolution to 1650 X 1050. Problem is I CAN'T log in to do so. I'm posting this from my Ubuntu partition. What's stupid is I can get into safe mode but can't get into normal.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Any way to adjust screen resolution from safemode? There is no 1650X1050 in safe mode.

**Resolution**

Delete video card driver from safemode. Boot into windows, reinstall driver. Download a program called power strip. Remove amd dual core optimizer. install powerstrip and create new resolution settings..

In Safe Mode, try "going through the motions" of setting the resolution to the lowest resolution available, even if that's what it's on already. Make sure to hit Apply. Then reboot in normal mode and see if you can get past the impasse.

I had the same problem once, except the refresh rate was too high. Fortunately there was an image, a really messed up image but it was good enough for me to fix the settings.

Aside from borrowing someone else's monitor, you could practice the keystrokes and shortcuts on someone else's computer so you can change the settings without seeing them. (ie push windows key, push up five times, enter, etc etc) The only problem with that is that you've probably edited and reorderd lists and stuff, I suppose you can always guess and go from memory though.

Thanks for the suggestions guys but it didn't work. I will try again tomorrow if anyone has any more suggestions. Unfortunately I do'nt hink anyone around has a monitor I could borrow. Guess I could go to the store and buy one then return it. Or I just get rid of Windows all together.

Can you uninstall your video drivers (or just uninstall the GPU from Device Manager), reboot, and have the monitor discovered when the OS rediscovers the GPU?
