So I had some sauce and I think I miscalculated and ate it even though I now realize the jar had been opened about 6 weeks ago.

Since then it's been in the fridge at probably ~38-40 F.

I put the sauce on the stove at pretty high heat for prolly 6-7 min and it was bubbling really good before I ate it.

However, I feel a little sick right now in my stomach.

:(

Edit: I feel Ok now. False alarm.

Botulism only grows anaerobically, before you open it
you'll be fine, well, if you are sick, it isn't Botulism anyway

Botulism happens when you can something. Does NOT happen to something thats open in the fridge. Worst that can happen in there is mold, which I would hope you noticed when you opened it up and poured it out. If there was no mold, then it was fine.

yeah, that's true.

you'd know if it were botulism by the bulging can.

and food poisoning doesn't usually set in until around 6 hours or so, post-ingestion

Women have always told me that bulging cans are bad, and bulging jeans are good.

You are probably feeling sick because you expect to feel sick. In other words, it's probably in your head.

On the other hand, dibs on your POST COUNT if I can add them to mine.... ;)

Not necessarily true. It all depends on the causative agent. Sometimes food poisoning can occur within 15 minutes of consumption.

I had a can of tuna that was bulging once and didn't even think about opening it, in the trash it went.

Unless it were molasses. From what I understand botulism can affect you a hell of a lot faster than 6 hours.

Does molasses make the botulism move slower b/c of how thick it is?

If that's true, how come molasses stored in JARS doesn't explode? HUH?

How ill did you get?

I felt something wrong in my abdomen.. kind of like I was going to puke but it also made me feel slightly tight in my chest so I was worried it was affecting my muscles. I am a nervous person though, so I bet a lot of it was in my head.. so to speak.

Google is your friend. The pressure it takes to bulge a can is considerably less than it would take to make a jar explode.

No wonder your post count is so high. Do you frequently post without thinking or doing a search?

The worst food poisoning I ever got was three years ago. I got it from a $.79 frozen TV dinner...it was on sale.

About 30 minutes after ingestion, I felt uncontrollably sleepy...like I'd been drugged or something. I went to bed. I woke up a few hours later shaking...shaking so uncontrollably, it was like something out of The Exorcist.

My legs had this shooting pain down both of them and my stomach was clenching and unclenching like when you puke, except I was not puking...yet. I was sweating profusely and felt so cold at the same time.

I don't remember waking up again and getting to the bathroom, but apparently I did b/c that's where I woke up. On the floor. Lying in my own puke, with puke all over the toilet.

After the nausea was over, it started coming out of the other end for the next two days. I lost almost 10 pounds.

To this day, I have NO IDEA what the hell happened to me. I don't wish that on my worst enemy.

Yes, I do. I'm too busy with the real world to say "Wow. I wonder how many toothpicks it would take to build a bridge to the sun...let me Google." You, apparently, have lots of free time. Please continue to work out all of life's little mysteries for me. I appreciate it. Thanks!

I honestly was going to; I was scared! But I guess I passed out. I haven't eaten a TV dinner since then.

How long were you sick for? Which food poisoning did you get?

Years ago I got Salmonella from Pizza Hut as determined by the CDC. I was deathly ill for 3 weeks where I laid on the couch. Only time I moved was to puke/sh!t my brains out.

I was ill for a total of three days. The first 24-some odd hours were spent passed out in bed and the bathroom floor. After that, I couldn't leave the house b/c I needed to be within running distance of the toilet.

I have no idea "which" food poisoning I got...I've had food poisoning many times. From fish, from chicken, from whatever...but I had never had anything like that before, or since, thank GOD.
