I have a problem.

Hopefully someone can help me out, because its either happened to them or they know how to rectify the situation.

I have a plextor 48/24/48 burner and a generic DVD-ROM drive. Both of them are recognized by windows and it says they are "working fine." But they are not. If i try and insert a cd in the plextor or dvd drive it says "please insert a cd" And if I put a DVD in DVD-ROM drive it says the same thing. Im sure someone has had this problem.

I have all current drivers for these drives. I have the most current BIOS for the ASUS MOBO thats listed with my info.

Please help?

Try disconnection one of the drives and try just one optical drive at a time. Maybe there is a conflict. Also double check the jumper settings while you are in the case.

I had the same problem with my Plextor 712A, DVD/CD burner/ROM. Whenever it was connected to the mobo it, and the Asus CD-ROM would not work. I had the Plextor in the Master IDE and the Asus in the Secondary IDE. Both set as Master. BIOS showed both as connected and working. The lights on the front of the Plextor were blinking a code. I went to the Plextor web-site and read the code manual and tried the solution on there. No luck. I finally pulled the Plextor out, and the Asus CD-ROM works! I sent the Plextor RMA. Waiting for a replacement.

Best Regards,

Norm

Prolly not it, BUT I had the same prob. Turned out the 4pin power connectors from the PSU were dead.

Stick a case fan on 'em to check if they are suppling power

I'm having similar problems. Only Its a newly built computer, and I cant get windows loaded on. One is correctly set as master, and the other as slave, but when it looks for a boot disk, the drives kick up and start spinning, but nothing ever happens. Raid is turned of, ram is at 2.7 volatge, my hard drive is on its own cord and has the jumper removed, im currently trying to remove all the components on the motherboard that are supported by my sound card. Thats what someone suggested atleast.
