Help! Black border around screen when using HDMI

Hello,

I just built a HTPC for my living room. It has an MSI 785GM-E65 motherboard with the AMD 785G integrated graphics.

For some odd reason, I get a picture on my 46" Sharp HDTV, but one or two inches around the border are black! So even when I set the computer resolution to 1920x1080 and the TV top pixel-per-pixel resolution, the problem persists.

The output is also blurry, so it's obvious the REAL resolution is NOT 1920x1080.

Any ideas?

This one got me, too. In the configuration section for your display in the Catalyst Control Center, one of the tabs shows an overscan/underscan slider which puts the black bars around the image. I think the program defaults to the extreme underscan condition for people with rear projection HDTVs or CRTs so they can see the Start Button. Just slide it all the way in the other direction. It'll resize on-the-fly. No need for restarts or anything like that.

I don't have the software in front of me, so that's my best recollection of it.

As for the blurriness, I'm not sure about that one; I don't remember it being blurry before I fixed the black border. Like the person above me said, make sure that the HDTV resolution(s) are enabled in CCC.

Make sure you download the latest Catalyst drivers, too.

UPDATE: In front of the computer now. In Configure Display section, it's the "Scaling Options" tab. Move the slider to the far right.

I had the same problem when I switched to using HDMI. As fluffedup said check the overscan slider in CCC; once you remove the black border the blurriness will go away as well.
