I just put together a new system last night and encountered a lovely problem: my system BIOS shows an incorrect amount of installed memory

Here are the components in question:

Motherboard: Asus A8V Deluxe (w/most recent 1013 BIOS)
RAM: OCZ 2GBs (1024x2) OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K

...what to do now :(

The BIOS reports 1536MB of installed RAM and not 2048mb as it should.

You can try one stick at a time to make sure each one is reporting 1024. The one that doesn't may be the culprit.

The Asus A8V Deluxe supports 4GB of installed RAM.

You didn't answer my question. HOW MUCH RAM IS BIOS DETECTING?

If it's detecting only 1024Mb then I'd wonder if you have a bad memory stick. Test one at a time as suggested by Tarrant64.

If you're getting some other oddball number, it may give us a clue. We can't help if you're stingy with information.

Thanks for the follow up, Penguin, but I'd sort of let this thread die because the other one was getting all the action. I have resolved the issue and the outcome was that OCZ shipped out a 2GB kit in which one of the DIMMs was actually a 512MB stick. I've begun an RMA process on my memory and I'll be buying a new pack. Thanks for your help.
