Ok hey, I just bought a system, here are the specs:

Abit is7-g mobo
512 MB OC Platinum Memory
Sapphire 9800 ATI SE
36.7 GB SATA RAPTOR HD
ARTEC 52x24x52
Intel Pentium 4 800 FSB 2.4 ghz

My problem is:

I opened bios tweaked some things, because it didn't detect the SATA HD. I set the SATA setting to auto instead of default, and next restart it detected the HD fine. Now, I put my WIN XP in the CD-TRAY, and it booted up. I try to install, but I smelled kind of smoke from my case.(turned out that the power supply just plain smelled like smoke)

So I quickly turn the computer off. Ok, so I restart it, now it won't boot from CD. It says:

Verifying DMI POOL DATA
_

its been doing that for the past ... idk 20 minutes?

Whats your solution, please help ! =\

Also, I have a SATA Floppy Disk, but I don't have the floppy drive. Should I install WIN XP first or wait to buy a external Floppy drive and buy it.

Your Help will be appreciated, ALOT! THANKS IN ADVANCE!

There's a small motherboard jumper.
With power disconnected, move the jumper from pins 1 & 2 to pins 2 & 3, which discharges the CMOS.
Then return jumper to former position.
Restart computer, hold DEL key to enter bios & re-do the bios settings.

Btw, I tried removing the CMOS (via manual moving those pins) then my computer won't start !

I had to put it back to its default settings to fix it....how do I disable it, but can still power on??!

What do you mean, put it back in former position? Like do it as the default?

Ok, I just did some tests, and this is what happened:

In bios, I didn't set the SATA to AUTO

Rebooted, did the Verifying DMI POOL DATA, but seconds later it booted from disk

Now, I liked this part, but now my computer can't detect the SATA hd because I didnt enable it! How do I fix this, should I just get another HD? Plus, when I try to boot with the bios on SATA with AUTO, it says "Memory Banks: 0" so should I wait for like a long time, with 640 KB onboard video? OR if my inference is right?

Any answers guys?!

Do you have it hooked to the ICH5R or the silicon image chip. If it is coonected to the ICH5R you should be able to hook up, boot from the cd, and go. If its hooked to the SI chip you will need to F6 and supply the drivers.

Also if its the ICH5R youi should "enable" on chip serial ata and set it to auto under onchip IDE devices.
For the SI chip the sata controller should be enabled under onboard pci devices and sata raid rom disabled.

Flash the bios to latest version. (I ran up and asked one of those black shirts at Best Buy for ya.)

The bios is stored in a chip on the motherboard. Flashing the bios means just installing another instruction set to a fixed chip. Abit makes it really easy. Go Here for a bit of help on how to do it

Ack, it says

After booting from the floppy, flash the BIOS in pure DOS mode by following instructions:

How can I do this, if I can't even access DOS?

I don't think a bios flash will help. You either have a bum hard drive or you have the settings wrong in the bios.

I'm going to assume you mean the IS7-G (in the post title) which does use the ICH5R southbridge.

Anyway lets start over.

1. Clear CMOS (move the jumper from pins 1-2 and place it on 2-3 for a few seconds then move it back to 1-2)

2. If you are using more than 1 stick of ram remove all but one.

3. Make sure you have the sata cable installed on SATA 1 and connections are right. Make sure you are using either the sata power adapter or legacy power but not both.

4. Start your PC/ enter the bios and load fail safe defaults with these exceptions.

a. disable quick boot/post
b. set the hard drive seek to 10 seconds
c. set it to boot from cd first

5. Save and exit.

6. When it says press any key to boot from cd - press any key.

What happens?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

Its formatting right now, thanks !!

btw, all I did was to change the boot to CD-ROM first instead of HD

My Old Boot Settings:

Floppy
Hard-Disk
CD-ROM

Thanks alot man, this made my day, after frustrating hours of testing!! =D

Glad to hear its working.
Once you get it updated and all you can download Flash Menu here. It will allow you to update the bios in windows via the internet. You will want to update the bios since there have been several important changes (speed increases and other things) on that board since the mass production release.
