Hi, my friend is having a problem with his computer. The specs are Tyan S2460, Radeon 8500 (5.13.2.3286 drivers) and Windows 2000 SP2 all installed. Now, his computer locks up randomly in this exact order: first the mouse stops, then the monitor shuts off and then the computer reboots itself. Personally I don't have the slightest clue why. I'm pretty sure it's not cooling considering there is a huge fan blowing a lot of air into his system and through it so it remains relatively cool.

The problem this time got a little bit bigger. The computer froze, in that order, and now the computer will turn on, but the monitor is not receiving any signal. His computer has been off for an hour with a lot of fans blowing into it, but the computer is fine. I fear the video card may not be working, but I'm hoping it's something else. Should I try reseating the card again? Could it be the motherboard? Any insight/speculation would be helpful. Thanks.

P.S. As soon as I get to Windows 2000 I'm going back to the old drivers, but I cannot yet. :(

Verify that the CPU is not overheating. Also check to see if all the ram is properly seated.

ask him if he is one of this people who "flashed his radeon oem into a retail"....and/or is overclocking it.

Dont know..difficult to say what's the culprit...you should try to replace parts and check the system to make sure what part (cpu, video, sound...) causes the problem.

Also try reseating the video card, and if that doesn't work try another card if you've got one.
