As the title says, what's the best value card for Celeron 900 PC? I've got a voodoo 3 now (Wow, that's old) and would like to upgrade but there's no use in getting a great video card if the processor can't drive it.

Your insight is greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Compgeeks has a GeForce 3 Ti 200 for $79. You should be able to find GF3s for about $70-100, just look in the hot deals forum. I may be prejudiced because I own one, but I like it and it gives great performance. I've also had an AIW 8500 and it seemed pretty good, but I gave it to a friend before I could test it out thoroughly. You might be good going with a GF4 Ti 4200 for about $130. It gives you some increase in speed and a little "future proofing" if you want it. This would allow you to bring the video card along when you upgrade the CPU (assuming that's in the next year or so). There won't be a problem with compatibilty. Most games are more limited by video card than CPU. I'm only running a 1 Gig Duron with GF3 on my gaming rig (I've got other things to throw my money at right now) and I can run just about everything I want.

Hell, a GF4MX440, Radeon 7200/7500 class graphics card would probably suffice for your CPU, perhaps even a GF2MX400. I currently have a V3 in my Celly 850 system and its a pretty good match even. Of course, with a GF3Ti or Radeon 8500LE, you could bring it over to your future system, assuming the future is near :)

If you prefer more video quality, go with the 8500LE, with AA, and Ansio it takes FAR less of a performance hit over the Gf3's
