the 875 has a 3.2 P4 in it, the 865 has a 3.0 P4 in it.

technical details -
* 2 x 512 Corsair C2P memory modules stopped working
* other DDR-400 memory is still working

is it possible for an ATX power supply to damage a motherboard ?

i had upgraded & one of these machines would be useful as a utility computer.

in the process of trouble-shooting, i plugged a few different ATX power supplies
into them. i'm wondering if that did the damage, either by plugging an "old-format" with in-compatible pins or different voltages power supply.

It most certainly is possible for a faulty power supply to mess up a motherboard, but I'd be surprised if just plugging in a different ATX motherboard would cause any issues, unless you have the wires/pins messed up, but that would be something you would have had to manually do. (not likely).

Just so I understand, you have two separate mobo/memory/cpu combinations and neither one of them works?

2 separate mobo-CPU combinations, an intel 865 board with a 3.0 P4, and an intel 875 board with a 3.2 P4.

DDR400 memory borrowed from a working Abit IC7-Max.
