My God!!

What a Mammby-Pammby, Panty-waisted, crybaby society we've let the "social scientists" create. For crying out loud.

<< Meyer, a gym teacher for 28 years, said some schools have tried to use softer balls and allow players who are hit to stay in the game. >>

This isn't about violence, it's about the half assed concept that there shouldn't be any winners or losers. I guess Darwin was full of SHI*.

Dodge ball is fun.

How bout we just pad the walls at school so kids can't fall into them and hurt themselves.
Amazing how PC this country wants to be.

Or they should make it more real life, and give everykid a 9mm and 2 clips, call it "Dodge bullet".

<< In a recent article titled "The Physical Education Hall of Shame" and published in a teaching journal, Neil Williams, a physical education professor at Eastern Connecticut University, criticized the merits of dodge ball, which also is called sniper, bombardment and war ball >>

A hundred bucks says that Professor Williams used to get the sh!t kicked out of him back in his dodge ball playing days...

Gosh, and that Cindy Meyer chick would probably have a coronary if she saw the games the students would play if unsupervised... dodge ball is pretty mild in comparison. Heck, one of the ones we'd play every day was called either "wallball" or, more politically incorrect, "Polish Handball." Concept is along the similar lines to dodge ball, but played with a nice heavy raquetball instead (and headshots were encouraged).

I saw this guy that wants to eliminate Dodge Ball on CNBC or something, and the person interviewing him goes, "Ban dodge ball? What's next, ban musical chairs?" And he answers, "I actually do think musical chairs should be banned as well."

Is this guy for real?

My daughter lost a game of hopscotch once.
Can we get that banned?

And, oh yeah - Chess and Checkers are far too competitive also.

This reminds me of the teeter-totter thing.

around 100 years ago, at the turn of the century, there was a movement of sorts in america, and school and city officials were encouraged to create more playground, with new equipment. the idea was that kids would play on the playground equipment, and maybe fall down and scrape a knee, but scraping that knee would teach that kid an important lesson. he would be more carefull next time, and this would help him learn to be a stronger and smarter person as he grows up. and of course, there was the teeter-totter. people thought this was a great toy for kids to play on, because it took two people to play, thus helping the kids develope teamwork skills, and help them learn to trust eachother.

now, 100 years later. the teeter totter has been almost completely phased out. why? its precisely the same reason that it was made in the first place: it takes more than one person to use it. companies that make playground equipment will tell you they dont make them because any kid without a friend to play with cant use it, or if one kid decides to jump off, then the other kid might get hurt. now they just make those little springy things that wave back and forth, but only have room for one person.

its quite sad, really.

We used to play "war" with BB Guns, nobody ever really got hurt, but we had some close calls. And only 50% of us turned out to be homocidal maniacs, pretty good odds if you ask me ;)
